Hi Dale...
Hot Lake is open for paid tours. They are not yet open for people to stay in as a hotel...still no electricity or water but people are remodeling the rooms in an expensive "adopt a room for a high price, then pay for everything in it, then do the work yourself" program. The tours are interesting and probably worth it.
We have two Starbucks...count'em...TWO
A Super Wal-Mart...can we get any more upscale??
The miniature golf course tucked off beside riverside park is a lot of fun and quite nice for a course on farm land.
Safeway (the newer and improveder...YES that's a word, I just made it up), Albertsons (not new and needs to be) are still here...Payless...now Rite Aide limps along. The downtown fights not to be a ghost town. Hey...a new library on the old Safeway (drag the gut, pull into the parking lot) site is quite nice. A dental school if you want cheap check ups (and don't mind the pain and the odd occasional accident...I'm kidding...well, maybe). The old Houghts ice cream parlor reopened (Sadly, both of the Houghts died a few years back...but they were like...a million years old).
Hmmm, what else...don't know...it's pretty much the same in La Grande...which is sort of nice and comforting...it wouldn't be "home" when you came back if everything was TOO different.
